"Magu" Lujan |
Gilbert Lujan
was born near French Camp, California, a migrant farm workers'
village, and moved to East Los Angeles around the beginning
of World War II. He first began painting murals in East Los
Angeles in the early 1970s. In 1973, he joined with Frank Romero,
Carlos Almaraz, and Roberto de la Rocha to found Los Four. Los
Four collaborated on numerous murals and on other public art
installations throughout California during the next 10 years,
and had a major influence in defining Chicano art in California.
Lujan has exhibited his paintings and sculptures in numerous
solo and group shows in the United States and abroad.
